Facility Advisory Committees

The Data Products and Services Advisory Committee (DPSAC) advises on data and metadata distribution, standards, and quality for all geophysical data and data products in EarthScope Consortium’s Data Services.

DPSAC CHARTER

The Engagement Activities Advisory Committee (EAAC) advises the EarthScope Consortium Staff and Board of Directors on education, workforce development, outreach, community engagement, and representation.

EAAC CHARTER

The Network Instrumentation Advisory Committee (NIAC) sets priorities for all aspects of network technology, including but not limited to instrumentation for geophysical measurements, geographic network configuration, communications, power, etc.

NIAC CHARTER

The Global Seismographic Network Advisory Committee (GSNAC) advises the NSF NGF Facility (via the Network Instrumentation Advisory Committee) and the USGS on policies to deploy and operate the Global Seismographic Network (GSN), to ensure its integrity and long-term viability, to rapidly disseminate data collected by the GSN, and coordinate GSN linkages with other networks around the world.

GSNAC CHARTER

The PI Instrumentation Advisory Committee (PIIAC) sets priorities and identifies leading practices for project instrumentation, including emerging sensor technologies and applications.

PIIAC CHARTER

The EarthScope Consortium Board of Directors is looking for volunteers to help guide and shape our vision by serving on NSF NGF Advisory Committees. The Advisory Committees provide valuable insight and guidance to the EarthScope Board, and serve as important liaisons between the Consortium and the facility user community.

While the duration of inaugural committee member commitments will vary, the typical Advisory Committee member is expected to serve a 3 year term, with three new members rotating onto the committee each year. Committee members are expected to participate in training related to onboarding, governance best practices, ethics, and professional development at the beginning of their terms.

Member Responsibilities:

• Be Informed: Participate in Onboarding, Governance Best Practices Training, and professional development.
• Be Visible: Actively solicit input from the broad stakeholder community.
• Be Fair and Impartial: Faithfully represent broader community needs and perspectives.
• Be Honest: Committee members should seek to meet the highest standards of transparency and ethics.
• Be an Active Committee Member:
  • Prepare for and attend committee meetings (no more than two in-person meetings per year; Additional virtual meetings likely).
  • Review and edit meeting briefing materials in advance of the next meeting
  • Actively participate in committee discussions

Member/Committee Support to be provided by EarthScope:

• Limited caregiver support for governance participation
• Hybrid option available for all meetings
• Access to online resources for communication and record-keeping
• Administrative support including minutes-keeping at meetings
• Training in committee purpose, governance leading practices, and past committee actions
• Onboarding education describing responsibilities of governance members to represent broad interests
• Professional development
